How the 12-Week In-Person Programme Works

The Core Fundamentals™ personal training programme in N7 is structured into three progressive phases.

You’ll train 3 times per week – that’s 36 personal training sessions in N7 – following a clear format that adapts to your ability:

Breathe, Brace, Connect

Phase 1 (Weeks 1-4)

Theme: Deep core activation, pelvic floor awareness, controlled movement

You will learn:

  • breathing for core support (360 / lateral breathing)

  • pelvic floor engagement and relaxation

  • how to find and feel your deep core

  • gentle mat-based core and hip stability

  • Foundational patterns: hinge, squat, push, pull

Stability and Control

Phase 2 (Weeks 5–8)

Theme: Challenging your core to stabilise through movement and load.

You’ll progress into:

  • Single-leg variations
  • Overhead and anti-rotation work with light weights
  • Tempo and control instead of simply adding load
  • Plank-based variations that teach full-body tension
  • Improving balance, coordination and joint stability

Strength Integration

Phase 3 (Weeks 9–12)

Theme: Bringing your new core strength into foundational compound lifts.

This phase includes:

  • Building confidence with basic compound lifts
  • Adding load gradually to squats, hinges and pushes
  • Maintaining breathing and bracing under load
  • Integrating hips, glutes and upper body strength
  • Building a foundation for future strength training in N7

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about Core Fundamentals™? Here are the answers to the most common things people ask before starting the programme.

Core Fundamentals™ is a structured 12-week training programme that teaches you how to move, brace and lift safely and confidently.

It blends mat-based core and Pilates-inspired work, stability training and progressive strength so you learn:

  • How to breathe and brace properly
  • How to engage your deep core and pelvic floor
  • How to move well in squats, hinges, pushes and pulls
  • How to build strength safely without jumping straight into heavy lifting

Core Fundamentals™ is designed as a 12-week programme, based on three sessions per week.

This gives you enough frequency and repetition to:

  • Learn and reinforce new movement patterns
  • Build core strength and control
  • Progress through the three phases of the programme without feeling rushed

If you know in advance that you may need a different schedule, we can discuss that in your consultation and find a realistic plan that still respects the structure of the programme.

Yes — Core Fundamentals™ is designed with beginners and “back-to-exercise” clients in mind.

We start with:

  • Mat-based work and gentle activation drills
  • Breathing and bracing technique
  • Bodyweight and very light resistance

You don’t need to be fit, flexible or confident in the gym to start — that’s exactly what the programme is there to build.

In many cases, yes — Core Fundamentals™ can be very helpful for people with a history of back pain or niggles, because it focuses on:

  • Learning how to brace and support your spine
  • Improving posture and movement patterns
  • Building strength gradually with good technique

However, if you have acute pain, recent surgery or undiagnosed symptoms, you may need medical clearance before starting. In your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your history in detail and decide whether:

  • Core Fundamentals™ is appropriate as-is, or
  • We need to modify the approach, or
  • You should be referred to another professional first

In “normal” personal training, sessions are often built mainly around your external goals — fat loss, performance or general strength — and the structure can vary a lot from trainer to trainer.

Core Fundamentals™ is different because it:

  • Follows a predesigned 12-week curriculum with three clear phases
  • Puts breathing, bracing and core control at the centre of everything
  • Spends more time on movement quality, stability and awareness, before chasing heavier loads

It is still personalised — especially in 1:1 sessions — but the spine of the programme stays consistent so you build your foundations step by step instead of skipping ahead.

The Core Fundamentals™ programme is designed around three sessions per week to give you the best learning curve and results over 12 weeks.

If you can genuinely only manage two sessions per week, we can:

  • Discuss how that would affect your progress and timeline
  • Adapt the schedule so you still complete all of the sessions, just over a slightly longer period

We’ll cover this in your consultation so we can agree on a plan that feels realistic for your life, without diluting the purpose of the programme.

For in-studio sessions, all equipment you need will be provided.

For home-based training, we’ll mainly use:

  • Your own bodyweight
  • Light dumbbells or bands
  • Simple tools such as a mat, cushion or support where needed

If you don’t have anything yet, don’t worry, I will bring the equipment needed.

After you complete Core Fundamentals™, you’ll have:

  • Stronger core and better control
  • Solid technique in key movement patterns
  • More confidence with your body and with lifting

From there, you can:

  • Move into a more traditional strength or performance programme
  • Continue working 1:1 to build on your new foundations
  • Join future Core Fundamentals™ offerings delivered live online or via the app (coming soon)
